There are a number of reasons why the Plexidor is a better investment than regular pet flaps.
- The Plexidor has aluminium frames and plexiglas panels which make them much harder wearing than plastic flaps or doors which can break easliy with larger lively pets.
- As the Plexidor is spring operated it does not rely on gravity to close it unlike flaps, so is far more resistant to wind. It also has superior weatherseal making it far more weatherproof than ordinary pet doors.
- Because it offers a higher degree of weatherproofing it will save you money in the long run in heating bills (or air-conditioning in the summer if you are lucky!)
- Owing to the materials used in the Plexidor and its longevity you will save money in not having to keep replacing cheaper plastic doors.
- Even though the Plexidor is hard-wearing, inevitably things will wear out eventually. But do not despair as every part of the Plexidor is replaceable. We carry a full stock of replacement parts, so after 5-10 years of use your springs may start to show signs of their age, but to replace these costs less than a new plastic flap type door.
The best pet door for a wall is the Plexidor Wall Unit, click Wall . It is exactly the same as the standard Plexidor except it comes with an aluminium tunnel piece which can be cut to fit walls between 5cm and 30 cm
Do you have a pet door that will let my dog out and keep the cats in?
Maybe/Yes. The Plexidor XL almost always works. As the Plexidors get larger the springs get stronger. 95% of cats will not us the Plexidor XL. Most cats will use a Plexidor L or smaller.
It is possible for the Plexidor to be fitted into glass, though many glaziers do not like doing it. This is because there need to be 90 degree cuts which are difficult to do and they prefer round holes in glass. A competent glazier will be able to do it though.
What needs to be pointed out is that the Plexidor is 45mm thick because of the spring mechanism at the top, which is generally thicker than glass doors or windows. The cut-out in the glass will therefore need to be framed with timber and beading of your choice to finish off.
An alternative method that many of our customers have opted for in glass doors, is to replace the bottom piece of glass with a piece of UPVC and then cut into this to fit the Plexidor. This is not only easier to cut the 90 degree angles than in glass, but the UPVC also supports the weight of the glass above.
What is there to stop other dogs and cats coming into my house?
The Electronic Plexidor has been developed to do exactly that. A sensor built into the door "reads" the key code on the RFID key and opens only for your pet. The panel then unlocks and slides up like a mini garage door.
Some aspects of the Electronic Plexidor
Pet and Child Safe-Panel won't close when obstructed. Total control up and down. No pinched tails. No pinched fingers. Panel will not free fall with power failure.
Dependable-Runs on household current. Collar key is waterproof and does not need batteries. Key fastens securely to collar. Interior mounted motor will not freeze up in cold.
Durable-Steel and hardened aluminium frame with thick acrylic closing panel. Wall units include aluminum tunnel pieces and stainless steel mounting hardware for years of service. No unsightly rust streaks on your home.
Easy to Use- One button programming to add or change collar codes quickly and simply. Collar key snaps on easily and stays on. Comes complete with pet door, exterior trim, stainless steel hardware, 2 collar keys and power supply.
Yes it is very straightforward to fit the Plexidor into UPVC and in fact is the same as for wooden doors. What needs to be remembered though, is the thickness involved. The Plexidor is 45mm thick because of the spring mechanism at the top. UPVC doors are usually around half this thickness so there will be an overlap. This needs to be on the inside of your door to retain the weatherproofing. The excess is then finished with beading of your choice to match, such as strips of UPVC.
